Macizo Café and DeLa Finca Specialty Coffee were named the outright Filter and Espresso category winners at the 2026 Global Coffee Awards’ Latin America regional edition, judged blind in Houston, Texas on August 12. But Filter and Espresso are each split into subcategories, from Gesha to Decaf, and every gold medal awarded within them is a real, standalone competition win: eight other roasters also took Filter or Espresso gold this year, and we cover all of them below. EspressoDrop tracks the Filter and Espresso categories specifically, since they’re the closest thing the GCA has to a standardized head to head brew comparison; the competition’s other categories (Flat White Dairy and Flat White Plant Based Milk) and its overall roastery title aren’t covered here.

Lamastus Family Estates, Finca Lérida, and Hacienda La Esmeralda Win Best of Panama 2026
Lamastus Family Estates, Finca Lérida, and Hacienda La Esmeralda won the Geisha Washed, Geisha Natural, and Copa Panamá awards at the 2026 Best of Panama, Panama’s national coffee competition. The international online auction for the winning lots closed September 24, generating $3,041,940 in total sales, led by a record breaking $270,060 sale for 15 kilograms of Lamastus’s Elida Geisha Torre, or $18,004 per kilogram, the highest price ever paid for coffee at auction. None of the three winning lots is sold in bulk to home brewers since they went to specialty buyers at auction, but all three estates have other current harvest Geisha moving through retail partners.

Sweet Bloom Coffee, Cafe Kreyol, Lucky’s Coffee, All Day Roasting and oma Win 2026 Global Coffee Awards Filter and Espresso Titles
Sweet Bloom Coffee, Cafe Kreyol, Lucky’s Coffee, All Day Roasting Company, and oma coffee roaster each won a Filter or Espresso gold at the 2026 Global Coffee Awards’ US & Canada and Asia regional editions, several with more than one. Both editions crowned golds across a dozen or so subcategories each, from Gesha to Decaf, with more winners than fit into one post; the complete list is on our Global Coffee Awards page. Trude Skjold Løken Wins Norwegian Coffee Roasting Championship 2026
Trude Skjold Løken, head roaster at Kaffa in Oslo, won Norway’s 2026 national coffee roasting championship, NM i Kaffebrenning, on May 12, adding a national title to the Nordics Best Roaster award Kaffa picked up just months earlier.
